Kiss that High Electricity Bill Goodbye

Did you cringe the last time you saw your electricity bill? Looking for easy ways to bring the cost down, without making too many changes in your day to day routine? We’ve got you covered! Here are a few helpful changes you can make to help bring down your power bill!

Change your light bulbs:

If you aren’t already using energy efficient LED light bulbs, switch to them as soon as possible! Not only is the light easier on your eyes, they use a lot less energy than traditional light bulbs and are well worth it. They’re also a super easy switch to make.

Air dry your clothes:

Dryers use a LOT of energy! Skip the heat and hang your clothes to dry. Your freshly cleaned clothes will make the house smell like fresh linen! You’ll also extend the life of your garments, as heating them in the dryer tends to make them get worn out and faded faster. Less energy used, and better for your clothes? It’s a win- win!

Use cold water:

Speaking of laundry, wash your clothes in cold water. Using hot water increases your electricity bill. Using cold water keeps the bill down, and cleans your clothes just as well.

Use your dishwasher:

I know, using your dishwasher seems like it wouldn’t save you money. Great news! It saves you time and money! Running your faucet doing the dishes by hand typically uses more water and energy than using an energy efficient dishwasher (another switch we would recommend). Want to save even more energy? If your dishwasher has an air dry setting, use that instead of the heat dry.

Try a power strip:

Plug your electronics into a power bar or strip. Many electronics suck energy even when you’re not using them. Instead of going around the house unplugging things when you aren’t using them, just turn off the switch on your power bar! It’s a super fast and efficient way to avoid a higher electricity bill!

Let the sun in:

During the winter time, make sure to leave your blinds open and let the sun in. This will help heat up the room during the day. Close your blinds when the sun goes down to keep the heat in.

Insulate your windows:

A cheap way to keep your energy bill down is to put plastic film over your windows, and to caulk any spots that are letting drafts in. This way your heaters won’t need to work as hard.

Cheers to a lower electricity bill!
